URETERO-GENITAL FISTULAS AT NATIONAL TEACHING HOSPITAL OF COTONOU: CLINICAL AND THERAPEUTICAL ASPECTS ABOUT 11 CASES

Abstract
Objectives: Describe the epidemiology and the diagnosis of ureterogenital fistulas and report our experience in their care Patients and method: This was a retrospective study over a period of 10 years about patients treated and followed in the urology department of the National Teaching Hospital Hubert Koutoukou Maga of Cotonou for ureterovaginal uretero-uterine fistula. The epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic characteristics, with the operative outcomes had been studied. Results: Eleven patients had been included. The average age was 42.4 years. Permanent loss of urine through the vagina had been the main reason for consultation. Two patients had no surgical history while the other 9 had either a cesarean or a hysterectomy as an antecedent. The methylene blue test was negative in all patients. The ureteroneocystostomy in open surgery was performed in all patients. The postoperative course was uneventful in 8 patients. Conclusion: Although rare, ureterogenital fistulas are most often a complication of pelvic surgery. Their best treatment is prevention
