Abstract

Introduction : In vitro fertilization, since its first success in 1978, can give rise to complications leading to hospitalizations.
Objective : The general objective of this work was to study the complications of in vitro fertilization in a specialized center in the city of Douala, notably the Airport Clinic. Material and method : This was a descriptive cross-sectional study with retrospective data collection from January 2020 to December 2023 at the Douala Airport Clinic. Patients who experienced at least one complication during the procedure were included. The collected data were entered into CSPro software and analyzed by SPSS software.
Results : Of the 766 IVF/ICSI cycles, 148 or 19.3% were cycles with complications. The complications found were spontaneous miscarriages (33.9%), ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (16.2%), multiple pregnancies (13.6%). Post-puncture infections (1.3%) and ectopic pregnancies (1.3%). No deaths have been reported. Conclusion : This study showed that IVF complications are rare and diverse but are responsible for hospitalizations.
