Clinical aspects of sexual disorders in adult women at bogodogo university hospital

Abstract
Introduction: Sexual disorders are a group of disorders related to desire, arousal, orgasm and painful intercourse. According to some authors, these disorders occur in 22% to 43% of women in general. The aim was to study the clinical aspects of sexual disorders in adult women in the Obstetrics and Reproductive Medicine Department of the University Hospital of Bogodogo, Burkina Faso. Materials and methods: This was a three-month descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study from 15 January to 15 April 2023, involving 489 adult women who met the inclusion criteria. Data were collected using a written questionnaire administered to consenting participants on the ward. Results: The study included 489 women, mainly aged 25-34 years (42.54%), living in Ouagadougou (87.93%), married (71.17%) and with secondary education (47.65%). The overall prevalence of sexual dysfunction was 67.08%. Dyspareunia was the most common (88.75%), followed by decreased libido (41.31%). In bivariate analysis, history of female circumcision, parity, onset of menopause and partner's premature ejaculation were associated with sexual problems. Conclusions: The prevalence of sexual problems in adult women is high. They need to be systematically diagnosed and appropriately treated if women's health is to be improved.
