Therapeutic abortion in the context of an early pregnancy: experience of home drug care in Libreville in 2020

Abstract
Objective: To study the experience of medical care for therapeutic termination of pregnancy (ITG) at home in the context of an early pregnancy in Libreville in 2020
Patients and methods: The study took place over 8 months in the obstetric gynecology and neuropsychiatry departments of the Universities Hospitals in Libreville and in the patients' homes. This is a cross sectional, and analytical study, carried out on the basis of a case report form associated with follow-up with the psychiatrist on a sheet of the Hamilton scale. Were included all women with confirmed GA ≤ 14WG. All data was analyzed on SPSS.18 software. Results: Our sample was 36 patients, 2,18% of deliveries. The major feelings experienced during the therapeutic abortion process were respectively: guilt 50% (before and during), sadness 63.9% (during), fear of drugs . Within one month of the therapeutic abortion, 11 patients had no psychological symptoms. However, psychological and somatic symptoms that did not lead to impaired social, daily and professional functioning were found in 25 patients. The satisfaction rate was 86.1%, and 88.9% of patients would
recommend this method or use it again if necessary.
Conclusion: Therapeutic abortion caused several psychological and somatic symptoms. But no diagnosis
of depressive or anxiety disorder has been found. However, monitoring by the psychiatrist is essential.
