Anemia and transfusion at the parturian for maternity of the communal medical center of Matam (Conakry)

Abstract

Introduction: According to the World Health Organization (WHO), anemia in pregnant women is a decrease in hemoglobin below 11g / dl. The objective of this work was to contribute to the study of anemia at the maternity part of the maternal medical center of Matam.


Patients and methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study over a period of six (6) months from May 2 to October 30, 2017. RESULTS: The proportion of anemic parturients was 25% with a predominance of mild anemia. The average hemoglobin level was 9.97 g / dl + or 1.01 g / dl. The average age of our patients was 24 years with the extremes of 15 and 44 years, the most represented age group was 20 - 24 years or 33% of cases. In this observation, 11 patients were transfused. The pathologies that gave rise to the transfusions were retroplacental hematoma, uterine atony, postpartum haemorrhage and uterine rupture with respective frequencies: 63.64% (7 cases); 18.18% (2 cases); 9.09% (1cas) and 9.09% (1cas).


Conclusion: The proportion of anemic parturients was high, all age groups were represented.
