Hemoperitoneum by rupture of the rudimentary horn of a pseudo-unicorn uterus discovered during a laparotomy

Abstract

The occurrence of pregnancy in the rudimentary horn of a pseudo-unicorn uterus is a rare clinical fact. The most common complication is the rupture of the horn responsible for a hemoperitoneum which can be life threatening for the mother. The authors report a case of hemoperitoneum following the rupture of a rudimentary horn diagnosed incidentally at the 21st week of amenorrhea during a laparotomy. Through this clinical observation, the authors recall the rarity of this clinical entity and insist on the performance of an early quality ultrasound which would allow an early diagnosis to be made during pregnancy.
